It’s a busy time of the year. With Thanksgiving being so late, it feels like there is less time to “get everything done”. One of the things we do at DAVIS reminds us that the holiday season is not only about “what did I get” but also, “how can we help.”
For as long as I can remember, DAVIS has participated in an adopt a family program. This year, our team in our headquarters adopted 50 children and are helping their families by making sure they have presents under the tree. We made tags and let people pick which children to help and how many they wanted to buy for. It’s amazing to see everyone jockeying to “pick a child” to help!
There are some great stores near our office to shop in. As the deadline for gifts arrives, you can see some of the teams in our office shopping together – men looking at dolls and art supplies, women choosing cool trucks and intricate Lego sets. It’s a fun part of the process.
There are also employees who use this tradition as a teaching opportunity, and they bring their own children shopping with them. Explaining how some families need extra help and involving them in the process of giving at an early age.
And then the gifts…as they come in tagged and ready for the next recipient…from much needed and appreciated clothes and boots, to electronics, bikes, arts and crafts, games and amazing trucks and dolls of all sizes.
It is the most wonderful time of the year…and it brings our office and teams together to help those in our community.
