The yard is covered with leaves and it was 24 degrees this morning. And Thanksgiving is still a week away. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays! I hate to cook but love the smell of turkey and stuffing in the oven. It fills the house with warmth and love, and I always feel thankful to share the holiday with friends and family.
This year DAVIS wanted to show appreciation to all of our hard-working employees. We decided to give away 10 Thanksgiving Dinners. We asked our employees at our client sites “What are you Thankful for?” and the response has been over whelming. Over 30% of our employees took the time to share their stories with us. As I remember some of the more poignant stories, I’m warmed by the goodness, happiness and appreciation of the employees around us.
We have families with military members coming home to share the holiday; families that have beaten and are fighting medical scares, happy to share thanksgiving with their loved ones; people recovering from loss and hardships; people surviving fires and layoffs. Spiritual people, hard-working people, people who want to give back to others. Everyday-people who see the happiness of the holiday when they could be focused on adversity.
Their stories are uplifting. They make me proud to be associated with them, to know them, to be part of their lives. Their stories are a reminder that everyday life can be hard, very hard. But how you choose to handle “the hard part” is up to you. There are people with many more challenges to face, who always find something to be thankful for…and just being able to read their stories has given me a lot to be thankful for.
We’ve already decided to make this an annual event. Next year we will expand it to be able to show our appreciation to more of our inspiring and hard-working employees!
