The New Year is the perfect time to make resolutions for your personal and professional life. Whether you are looking for a better work life balance, a raise, or simply to become more organized, now is the time to start thinking about your goals for 2016.
Getting a Raise
Who doesn’t wish to gain recognition for all the hard work they do every day and maybe even get a raise out of the deal? An extra dollar here or there can go a long way. Especially when your personal goals may be buying a car or a house. It might not be a bad idea to start tracking all the tasks you are responsible for, and showing how each project impacts the company during your next review. This method will help your supervisor find a motive for a raise.
A New Job
The job market is booming and now is the perfect time to make landing a new job one of your New Year’s resolutions. Before you decide to jazz up your LinkedIn profile, make sure you spend some time thinking about what is the best way to market yourself. Take time to summarize your skills in one or two sentences. This will give people a clear idea of what you are capable of. Make sure to research companies you are interested in. There are so many social media sites like Glassdoor that allow you to read real reviews from current and former employees.
Network, Network, Network
With all those Holiday parties, it is time to market yourself and network! Networking in places you are most comfortable is key, because it is important to be authentic – this will help you build trusting relationships with others. Be strong in articulating what you are looking for and how others may help guide you. Remember to follow through professionally on any referrals you are given, your actions are a reflection of them.
