In her perspective, these individuals showed a strong desire to learn, guided by their honest recognition of areas needing improvement. Furthermore, she noticed that those with self-awareness tended to build more meaningful and harmonious relationships with their colleagues.¹

 

What is self-awareness and how rare is it?

Dr. Tasha Eurich, an organizational psychologist, described self-awareness in her TED talk as an individual’s capacity to clearly see themselves. Self-aware individuals understand who they are, how others perceive them, and how they fit into the world.

She also discussed her team’s research where they realized that 95 percent of people see themselves as self-aware, but only 10 to 15 percent of people are genuinely self-aware.² This shows that being truly self-aware isn’t very common.
