I already work from home – how important is this vacation thing anyways?
The answer you all may or may not be looking for is, VACATION IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT.
Since the beginning of the Pandemic my inbox has been flooded with cancelled vacation requests. Everyone cancelled their March plans to head to a warmer/sunnier climate, then they cancelled their April vacation plans to take the family to Disney, then they cancelled their normal Spring trip to the Cape because the Cape wasn’t allowing visitors, and now that summer is here, and the Pandemic is still in full swing, I receive daily cancellations for big summer trips to the beach or the mountains that just aren’t happening.
This is a problem.
Now, more than maybe ever before, mental health is so important. People are isolated, cut off from their normal, and they are pushing themselves in ways they may not have every pushed themselves before, and they need to take time.
Take time to breathe, rest, reflect. Don’t cancel your vacation even though you can’t go to the shore, or the beach house. Take time to go for walks in nature, clean your home, read a book, take nap, learn something new. As challenging and disappointing as this time has been for us all, we all have an opportunity.
So – take your vacation, allow your self to enjoy it, and hit the refresh button. Burnout can be avoided, but you have to take steps to keep yourself healthy.
