Giving Blood – Red Cross Blood Drives in Your Community Make it Easy

giving bloodSome people get squeamish, scared or nervous about giving blood. Others don’t even know what it involves. And some are happy to give – especially when it’s easy to do like a Red Cross Blood Drive in your office building or community.

If you ask most people, they want to help others. They want to give back and make a contribution. Their heart is in the right place, but they don’t always know how to help, where to start or what to do. It’s easier than you think to organize an event or drive to give back.  Simply pick a cause, explain what’s needed and make it as convenient as possible for people to contribute. You may be surprised by the results.

Last week here at DAVIS we did both a food drive and blood drive. Food pantries are known to have higher demand during school vacation weeks. Families that have children getting meals at school now need to provide meals at home, which can be a strain on some families and the food pantries. The DAVIS Impact Team, our community service team, committed to holding a food drive in our Marlborough headquarters.  Our employees stepped up to donate canned goods, non-perishables and paper goods.

Additionally, we have committed to the Red Cross to host four Blood Drives in our building every year. These blood drives are open to the public and well-attended by our DAVIS team. The goal is to get 20 units of blood per drive and last week’s event exceeded that number with 34 pints being donated! From local residents who saw the Blood Drive sign out front to our own employees donating, this event was a success all around.

Coming from a person who donated blood and food last week…it felt great to help others! Share your stories of helping others below!
