I saw a shirt that said this “Boston Will Run Again Strongah” today and I loved it. In fact, I bought it!
It is hard to believe that a year has passed since the Boston Marathon bombings. It was such a devastating time for our city and our country. It all seemed surreal at the time and now looking back it has certainly changed us. The day of the bombings Boston as a whole felt its vulnerability. We had been attacked, so many were hurt and precious lives had been lost. That feeling of fear then escalated when the gun fight took to the streets, finally ending in a capture. Relief set in and our strength as a people grew. Bostonians are hardy people. We weather the toughest storms and it is the greatest hurdles that seem to bring us closest.
The Marathon is just two weeks away. I have lived here my whole life and I know more people who are running this year than ever before. There is a strength and a goodness in this great city that is palpable. I am proud to call Boston and America my home.
Patriot’s Day is a Massachusetts holiday and most companies here are open. I have always worked the holiday to save my time for more “important” days, but this year, for me there is no more important day. This year, on Patriots Day, I will be celebrating with my children as we cheer the runners on in their journey. I will show my Patriotic pride and I will support my fellow Bostonians and Americans.
What will you be doing to recognize Patriots Day?
