Engineering Manager

Position summary The Engineering Manager will lead and develop the engineering staff to deliver quality process development projects on time, meeting specifications, and within the budgeted costs and timelines. This role will also participate in the sales and marketing of contract manufacturing and engineering services. 


  • Manage all customer and manufacturing projects through the project management system with the engineering staff
  • Manage all customer projects through pre-production processes, design for manufacturability, and execution of all engineering tasks throughout the manufacturing process
  • Manage technical reviews and design for manufacturability with our customers and internal engineering departments
  • Lead process improvement and Operational Excellence within the engineering department • Manage the estimating Engineers and review all quoting activity with the Director of Operations
  • Manage the timely completion of all engineering projects • Assign and monitor projects to the Engineers
  • Manage the projects to be within the quoted budget and to meet the on-time delivery goals
  • Train and develop engineers and create/utilize engineering standards • Provide employees with goals, performance initiatives, and areas of accountability that are directly aligned with the goals of rms Surgical
  • Hire manage work hours, vacation requests, review performance, discipline, terminate, make compensation changes, and ensure compliance of personnel to corporate personnel policies.
  • Professional and timely communication with other departments and customers.
  • Review department expenditures, including compensation, expenses, maintenance and equipment/software upgrades
  • Partners with the other business segments including sales/marketing, customer service, engineering, quality, and finance
  • Understands customer needs and the core business markets we serve
  • Ensures business systems are implemented, maintained, and functioning properly
  • Supports and complies with the company’s Quality System, ISO, and medical device requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or other engineering science or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of engineering experience in a machining or manufacturing setting
  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience
  • CAD and related design computer software (SolidWorks, Creo, Unigraphics, etc.)
  • Medical instrumentation product knowledge
  • Manufacturing process knowledge
  • Knowledge of Quality System: ISO9001, ISO13845
  • Ability to manage internal and external relationships
  • Project management experience and/or certifications
  • Ability to solve problems and root cause analysis
  • Ability to consistently achieve short and long-term business results
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks when needed
  • Ability to follow through on commitments and holds team members accountable 
  • Possess a strong attention to detail
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and ERP and other business-related systems
