Logistics Manager


Based in Memphis, TN, the Specimen Logistics Manager has responsibility for  specimen logistics program, including its commercial viability and cost effectiveness.  The Specimen Logistics Manager will be tasked with integrating the logistics processes for all clinical testing in both  Memphis, TN and Norwood, MA facilities.



  • Drawing off of a thorough knowledge of the logistics market landscape, sets company’s logistic strategy.  Develops logistics programs that maximize customer access to services while minimizing operational cost.
  • Working closely with the commercial organization, develop and execute logistics programs and initiatives in support of our commercial strategy.  This position will interact heavily with the Sales and Marketing departments and directly with customers to understand the limitations of current logistics services and develop programs to reduce limitations.
  • Approves all commercial and customer requests for changes to pickup times and logistics methods.  Evaluates margin impact of these changes and makes recommendations to commercial and operations management for approval of changes or additions with would impact product margins.  Develops and manages a process for routinely making these determinations.
  • Manages Specimen Logistics budget for cost per specimen.  Responsible for overall delivery reliability, maximizing reliability while minimizing cost per specimen.
  • Manages business relationships with all logistics vendors.  Negotiates service agreements and tracks and reports service quality for all logistics vendors.
  • Serves as first point of contact for FedEx.  Working closely with FedEx management, lead programs and negotiate price to continually drive down specimen logistics cost and improve delivery reliability.
  • Manage FedEx business relationship, including supplier quality.  Identify patterns in FedEx delivery failures and drive corrective action within FedEx to continually improve delivery reliability.
  • Develop intracompany tools and procedures to simplify customer and internal company communication with the logistics team, with a goal of minimizing errors and increasing transparency.
  • Leverage currently tracked information to proactively identify potential areas for improvement with detailed KPIs.
  • Supervise and develop Logistics coordinators
  • Follows all company safety policies & other safety precautions within work area
  • Regular attendance and timeliness is essential


  • BS in Business or relevant field, MBA preferred
  • Detailed understanding of overnight small package logistics (FedEx or UPS) and ground courier networks required
  • Strong knowledge of FedEx operations, experience in FedEx express operations preferred.
  • Commercial, Sales or Marketing experience required.  Track record of developing novel programs designed to meet unique customer needs.
  • Strong computer skills, ability to multi-task and work with a calm demeanor under pressure
  • Experience managing a team preferred; must have ability to recruit and develop high performing team
