Description

The Supervisor, Quality Control reports to the Manager, Quality Assurance and is responsible for ensuring adherence to quality standards and practices of production lines throughout day-to-day operations. Assist the Manager, Quality Assurance in a large seafood processing plant by evaluating raw materials, supplies and finished product. The Supervisor is responsible for employee compliance to common Good Manufacturing Practices, leading a team of Quality Control Technicians where they offer training, coaching and performance management. Calibrate and maintain microbiology laboratory equipment; compile and analyze data for documentation; prepare related reports, and revise and update SOPs as necessary.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Train, assist and coach a team of Quality Control Technicians
  • Maintains appropriate Quality Systems, assure compliance to in-house and/or external specifications and standards to include HACCP, Food Safety Guidelines and GMP’s
  • Responsible for all micro testing (swabbing and plating): environmental programs and food testing
  • Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures(SOPs), maintain and implement programs to improve quality
  • Organize the mailing out of samples to 3rd party lab, when needed
  • Maintaining supplies in lab, daily calibration of thermometers, refractometers, scales and pH meters
  • Evaluate Raw materials, ingredients and supplies that enter the plant
  • Coordinate quality testing and process control activities
  • Actively contributes to the data collection, improvements to process, products and systems
  • Responsible for inspecting and testing products, cuttings and cookouts
  • Pre-Op Inspections – Perform Pre-Op on all equipment associated and within the canning/labeling room beginning with line schedule for the day
  • Cooler/Freezer – cooler and freezer temperatures and micro-environment are to be monitored during day
  • Sample retention – Assure all samples are collected for same day and 24 hour drain weights, incubation, cutting and retention
  • Paper work –to be completed at the end of each shift, compiled, thoroughly checked, and handed in to the quality control lab
  • Ability to work expanded shifts when necessary, flexibility to move among shifts at various times to observe, improve processes, and/or solve issues
  •  Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Associates degree
  • Three (3) years prior experience in quality assurance in a food processing facility
  • Strong mathematical, written and verbal skills, knowledge of regulatory requirements and attention to detail
  • Experience with HACCP, GMPs and Food Safety
  • Ability to operate standard lab equipment, analyze/ measure the effectiveness of processes and initiatives
  • Excellent time management and task prioritization skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • 18 Years or older
  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • SQF Practitioner and PCQI Certifications preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
