Description

Principal Electrical Engineer

We are seeking a talented, self-motivated and experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering Department in creating world class electrical designs for robotic systems targeted for the Defense and Security markets. The candidate must have extensive knowledge and experience in designing analog and mixed signal electronics subsystems including motor amplifiers, power system architectures, DC/DC converters, battery chargers, etc. The successful candidate will enjoy working within a multidisciplinary team of some of the best and brightest engineers, engaging in the analysis, design, documentation, testing and manufacturing of complex robotic systems. The candidate will also suggest and work on improvements and enhancements for existing designs. This position requires excellent technical capabilities and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design solutions for complex systems or subsystems as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, with specific focus on analog, mixed signal, and power electronics.
  • Deliver prototypes and shippable hardware at a fast pace to meet short-term customer obligations and gain competitive advantage.
  • Lead, perform, or direct and document test and verification activities at the electrical system and/or subsystem level.
  • Coordinate and/or direct activities between engineering and customers both internal and external, suppliers, and test houses.
  • Conduct design reviews and/or provide significant technical analysis and commentary on the system and engineering specification, schematic, PCB design, and verification phases of development.
  • Work independently on project tasks as well as with other team members across multiple disciplines (mechanical/software/systems engineering).


Qualifications:
Strong knowledge and experience in motor sizing & selection, motor driver amplifier design, and motor control systems

  • Trade-off analysis of conflicting requirements such as incongruous motor torque and speed load points
  • Demonstrable ability to create detailed hardware and functional specifications, and design verification reports
  • Demonstrable success in designing motor drivers and power subsystems as part of Microcontroller/Microprocessor based systems
  • Good understanding of control theory and practical experience with emphasis on motor control applications 
  • Experience with schematic entry and basic printed circuit board design preferably in Altium
  • Knowledge of DC Brushed and Brushless motor driver design
  • Demonstrable knowledge of design for EMI, EMC, and ESD
  • Demonstrable knowledge of design for manufacturability and testability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • BSEE, MSEE preferred

Skill & Experience Desired:

  • Experience with contacting and/or non-contact battery charging
  • Experience with robotic systems
  • Experience with circuit simulation tools (SPICE, Hyperlynx, etc.)
  • Experience with system simulation tools
  • Intermediate/advanced Altium Designer skills 
  • Experience with PTC Windchill PLM system
  • MS Office product expertise
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint and OneNote tools
