Description

Waters Corporation is seeking a motivated, independent, and strong technical contributor for the Mechanical Engineering Co-Op position within the Instrument Development Group. This group is responsible for the development of Modular Instruments and Integrated Systems for the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Environmental, and Industrial marketplaces. These products are used routinely for the discovery and development of new medicines, biotech research, hazardous material identification, food and beverage production, and chemical manufacturing. The products are based on High Performance Liquid Chromatography requiring real-time control of the various complex electro-mechanical components necessary to perform this separation technique. This group works in collaboration with the electrical/software engineering, operations, service, marketing and in-house manufacturing teams.

This team is housed at the Waters corporate facility in Milford, Ma. The facility has modernized work spaces, onsite cafeteria, fitness center and sports fields for lunch time activities. The co-op will present opportunities for real-life work and project experience that can be used for portfolio and resume building.

Responsibilities:

The individual will work within Instrument Products Group in support of Instrument design, Instrument / Component Testing, and Design Improvements. Responsibilities may include:

  1. Assist with Instrument / Component Builds and Retrofits.
  2. Test Fixture Design and Setup
  3. System / Instrument / Component Level Performance / Design Verification Testing which includes: Test Setup, Data Acquisition, Analysis of Results, and Result Interpretation.
  4. Work with a variety of engineering tools including: MatLab, SolidWorks, NX Unigraphics, Python, and ANSYS.

Work scope could include the opportunity to:

1. Develop and Verify Analytical Models of Component / System / Instrument Characteristics Such As:

     a. Thermo-Dynamic Models of Thermal Performance

     b. Fluid Dynamic Models of Component Flow Characteristics

     c. Mechanical Characteristic Predictive Models and Design Optimization Models

2. Hardware Design using appropriate Design Tools

Qualifications:

Currently Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering Program working towards a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
