Description

Sr. Mechanical Engineer - Turret Systems

Responsibilities include mechanical system concept development, mechanical system architecture, mechanical system trade-off analysis, mechanical team leadership requirements definition and flow down, detailed mechanical design, test and evaluation of mechanical and EO performance parameters at both the component and system level. Successful candidate is expected to present a track record of the following essential functions:

  • Skilled in the use of solid modeling CAD tools specifically SolidWorks.

  • Thermal/ structural analysis: use of FEA, specifically ANSYS Workbench.

  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing methods and conventions in accordance with ASME 14.5-2009.

  • Fundamental modeling and analytical understanding of static and dynamic mechanical properties (e.g. stress, torque, natural frequency, damping, thermal expansion, etc.)

  • Specification and design of electro-mechanical mechanisms and components

  • Knowledge of advanced electro-mechanical systems: servos, positioning systems, piezoelectric devices, position feedback devices

  • Hermetic and Environmental Seal design

  • Knowledge of advanced materials: alloys, composites, ceramics, thermoplastics, epoxies

  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing methods: EDM, rapid prototyping, casting and molding, laser cutting, brazing, etc

  • Familiarity with advanced metrology tools including CMM’s, ESS chambers, LabView, shake tables, etc

  • Ability to generate required documentation including detailed drawings, design reports, assembly procedures, bills-of-material, test procedures, etc.

  • Electro-Optics System packaging & Integration is a plus.

  • Experience working with Ground Combat Vehicles, Targeting Systems, Turrets, and/or armor is a plus.

  • Support workforce planning activities.

  • Support bid and proposal activities.

  • Provided input to new or improved department processes.

  • MS Office, including MS Project & Visio

  • 25% travel nationally and internationally as required to support development, testing, and demo events.

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering  or an equivalent scientific discipline with at least, and 8-10 years applicable engineering experience.

  • Applicants should possess knowledge of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for one or more areas of technical expertise, and possess creativity and originality sufficient to contribute to new inventions, designs or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of important problems

  • Requires hands-on mechanical design skills and broad capabilities in the area of mechanical engineering.
