Technician Level 2 Description Summary

Intermediate level electronics circuit board technician responsible for testing and troubleshooting POS (Point-of-Sale) and PCB (printed circuit board) systems and equipment to the component level in a high volume/production driven environment. The intermediate level technician is a direct repair technician position where the candidate is expected to use skills and knowledge to diagnose and repair [including the replacement of circuit board parts] failures on circuit boards of cash registers, credit card readers, scanner scales, airport kiosks, and other POS equipment.  Experience repairing security equipment such as cameras, DVRs, and alarm boards/panels is a valued plus.  The position will also involve documenting processes to assist with maintaining of repair procedures library as well as require basic knowledge for reading schematics/technical drawings. Position requires a detail oriented, self-starting individual with at least 3 to 5 years of hands on experience repairing PCBs, particularly POS equipment, who is able to work with and/or without direct supervision.


Job Description

Testing of printed circuit boards (PCBs) with diagnostic software and equipment. Troubleshooting to component level digital/analog.  Using tools and equipment to repair/replace defective components [i.e.: removing and placing BGA chips, diodes, processors, etc.].  Detailed data entry of failures. Generate, update, and maintain repair procedures for technical library. Basic soldering skills Software knowledge of Windows/DOS/Office applications. Basic knowledge of reading schematics/technical drawings.


Tools (sample list) Oscilloscope. Multimeter. Voltmeter. Soldering Iron. Ball Grid Array (BGA) Machine (for the re-balling and laying of chips).


Skills and Education Minimum education - High School or equivalent, 3-5 Years experience in PCB repair service.  Soldering certification.  A+ Certification Schematic reading.
