The Staff Accountant at This Superior Non-Profit is by no means a generic position. The successful candidate will be managing multiple clients alongside a team of other staff accountants. The pace is quick, training is on the fly, and opportunity for advancement is readily available.


  • Cash Maintenance- Prepare weekly bank reconciliations, record cash receipts in the G/L, review all check disbursements for validity and accuracy, record all inter-company cash transfers.
  • Accounts Payable Review - Provide first level review for all accounts payable activities including invoice coding and entry processing, monitor the aging of payables and set-up all new vendors.
  • Month-End Closing – Perform month-end close and prepare financial statements including entering and posting of journal entries, prepare various schedules for balance sheet support including amortization and fixed asset schedules.
  • Other Financial Reporting – Complete all grant compliance reports and budget-to-actual variance reports for all schools.
  • Client Interaction – Be a resource for clients when questions arise regarding budgets, financial reports, accounts payable invoices and other accounting/finance related matters.
  • Resolve inquiries from clients, vendors and governmental agencies.
  • Assist in special projects and year-end audit schedule preparation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Accounting.
  • Share ideas for improved efficiencies within the firm.


Generally, any combination of education that would provide the required knowledge and skills for successful performance would qualify. A typical method of demonstrating these requirements would be:

EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university. A CPA license or CPA-eligibility is a plus.

EXPERIENCE: Two years of related experience.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Purposes, methods, and practices of financial and accounting record keeping; Basic accrual accounting principles and procedures; Use of Microsoft Excel Proper English usage and grammar.

  • Adapt quickly to change,
  • Learn the appropriate rules, regulations and technical procedures specifically related to processing payments for non-profit organizations and charter schools,
  • Understand and carry out directions in an independent manner,
  • Perform arithmetic calculations accurately and rapidly,
  • Prepare a variety of accurate financial reports and summaries,
  • Identify and correct errors in mathematical computations and financial documents,
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms,
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both client and staff.
